Solico Metal Expansion Plan: Phase 3

Capacity

Background

After successfully optimizing operations in Phase 1 and expanding to a larger facility with new cutting equipment in Phase 2, Solico Metal entered Phase 3 of its expansion strategy. This phase focuses on high-tech investments in cutting and blasting systems to achieve breakthrough capacity increases. Beside the Tube Laser we installed a sheet laser with capacity of cutting any sheet within 8×20 feet sizes up to 2/14 inches

Goals

  • Increase company throughput to 7× the nominal capacity of the original 12,000 sq. ft. shop.
  • Introducing one of the biggest Sheet Laser by sizes and power in Canada
  • Add complementary Sheet Laser and Laser Blast Machine to enhance cutting and blasting capabilities.
  • Establish Solico Metal as a national leader in laser-based steel processing.

What We Did

Tube Laser Investment

  • Installed the first 40×40 Tube Laser loading/unloading system in Canada.
  • Designed to process heavy structural tubes and profiles.
  • Achieved throughput capacity of up to 25,000 lbs of steel per shift.

Sheet Laser Installation

  • Added a large-format sheet laser ( 8x 20 Feet) to handle flat plate cutting with higher speed, precision, and automation.
  • Increased efficiency in processing thick sheets and plate-based fabrication projects.

Laser Blast Machine

  • Introduced a Laser Blast machine to improve blasting speed and surface preparation capacity.

Outcomes

  • check icon1 17× increase in capacity compared to the original 12,000 sq. ft. facility.
  • check icon1 1Significantly enhanced ability to process both tube and sheet steel at industrial volumes.
  • check icon1 1Achieved 25,000 lbs steel cutting per shift with the new Tube Laser system.
  • check icon1 1Improved surface preparation efficiency through automated blasting, reducing cycle times.
  • check icon1 1Solidified Solico Metal’s position as an industry leader in high-capacity, laser-based steel processing in Canada.
